This assignment for Sarah Lawrence Magazine was a bit out of the ordinary and great fun to draw! It accompanies an extract from Peter Trachtenberg’s (an alumni of Sarah Lawrence University) book “Another Insane Devotion” in which he explores the mysteries of relationship, both human and animal, and contemplates why any of us loves whom we love and all the unforeseen places to which that devotion leads us.
Trachtenberg wonders how his cat views him… “when she looked at me, Biscuit probably saw the same thing the cat in the famous Kliban cartoon sees when it looks at a wall, as indicated by the thought bubble above its head: a wall. In her case, it was a wall that moved and gave her food…” (Trachtenberg, P. (2012) “Another Insane Devotion”, Decapo Press)
