ELVIRA ‘T HART ILLUSTRATIVE WEAR

Elvira ‘t Hart is a recent fashion graduate whose latest collection aims to translate 2D sketches to 3D garments. This is an obvious aim of most fashion designers. However, instead of filling in where the pen stops, Hart actually makes her sketches the pattern. Using laser cuts, one can see how lines abruptly stop, outlines are inconsistent much like that of hand generated sketches, spaces are empty, and one automatically fills in this space with their imagination. The use of the imagination is the primary goal of Hart, as she explains, “An image is reduced to lines, planes and areas which do not have to be fully formed or finished in order to portray their ultimate meaning: it stimulates the imagination.”
