These Hayao Miyazaki Porco Rosso comics are so fun
Indeed. And for anyone who’s interested, the whole thing (only 15 pages) is translated in full, in English right here. It’s sort of a prototype for the movie, as several elements from the film don’t appear (this was drawn in 1989, the film came out in 1992). Also this is ‘technically’ an official translation, as Animerica published the comic in three parts in 1993 to promote Miyazaki and the film.
Besides Nausicaa, Miyazaki has done quite a few shorter manga pieces, mainly for promotional materials or for a feature he used to have in a hobby magazine in Japan (where this was originally published). I’d love to see an official translation of the stuff, but I doubt it’ll happen and only a few of them have gotten fan-translations. Thankfully the Ghibli Blog has hosted links to most of the translated Miyazaki manga available.
